Color of the Day: Royal Blue

There is something so rich and sophisticated yet at the same time soothing and subtle when it comes to the darker side of the color blue. Royal blue adds a touch of cool elegance to a space. It's an uncommon color different enough to add interest in your home and captivate visitors.

One of my favorite color combos is orange and blue. This home office is simply gorgeous to look at. There is a lot of pattern going on with the graphic wallpaper and curtains, but the solid deep blue chairs ground the space making it visually pleasing. The velvety accent chairs are so elegant yet simple and I love how the wood lining sloped down the arms pull in the warm curtain colors. One important detail, the orange box on the desk, finishes off the look of the space. Brilliant! I wouldn't mind being stuck at work if this was my office.

There is something so complimentary about this subway tile to the cabinetry that gives it the perfect pristine look. I love it!

For the weary, I always recommend trying new accent colors with disposable pieces. Even though this tufted headboard may have cost you a pretty penny, it beats the painstaking prime and paint job you will endure when you decide its time for a new color scheme.

Royal blue door. A simple start.
Perfect accent chair. I think no matter what color the theme in your home, this royal blue chair will add charm to your space. via

Or if you are just too scared to go with a big change, try this baby step. The easiest color test for your home and taking part in this falls color trend.

Extreme or subtle, royal blue is a beautifully enticing color perfect to use no matter what time of the year. I hope I've inspired your 2013 color scheme!

Campaign Dressers

It's been too long my friends and has been quite the month..I could slap myself for thinking I had a busy schedule from my previous job; my new position is insane to where I can't even view my blog! No Bueno! I'm excited to share these pretty campaign dressers I mentioned from my previous post.

At first glance these dressers may look unsightly; with it's dated wood panel finish and rusty metal detailing. But look again; those wood panels are easy to rough up for painting and the rusty detailing can be cleaned looking shiny as ever! Take a look at these beauties..It can be the perfect piece to add in that empty space in your home.

You may come across one that is in good enough condition to be left alone. This looks like the natural wood finish was untouched. But look how pretty once its all dressed up with accessories. Looks like the right foot needed some replacing but the mismatched look adds more character to the piece..I likes!

I love this blue finish! Check out the full DIY tutorial from showing a great before & after photo..

The best thing about these campaign dressers is that it will look great no matter what color you decide to paint it! If you just so happen to eye one of these at a thrift shop or flea market, snag it and dress it up! It will surely add style to your home.

Credenza's & Side Tables

Like bookcases and shelves, side tables are a great way to highlight your favorite photos, lamps, and just about any small accessory. The piece itself can also be the highlight of your design and anything that goes on it will compliment it greatly. Now, you know that saying, less is more? When it comes to decorating your credenza or side table, you definitely don't want to over clutter the piece by adding ALL of your favorite least enough to get you on the show HOARDERS.

Check out these beautiful side pieces showing great examples of Less is More..

Here is a closeup of a neatly accessorized bedside table..don't you love the clean display?
I love this lacquer table! The pops of color and texture from the accessories surrounding the side piece pair well with the shiny gleam of the table.

I love this campaign dresser..I think this will be a hot topic for my next post!
I hope I've inspired you to make your credenza or side table look just as fabulous as these.

Color of the day: Teal

Hi all! Welcome to September! We are so close to fall and I cannot believe how quick this year has gone by. Before we get into the warm lush colors of fall, I want to share my favorite spring color once again, TEAL. My inspiration comes from Genevieve Gorder's FaceBook post and reminded me of my love for this fun color!

Fabulous Blog Find! Switcheroom

A few months ago I stumbled upon a fantastic blog called  SWITCHEROOm. The master behind the beautiful and affordable designs is Elle Uy, who very much like me has dabbled in various work experiences but always reverted back to her passion for interior design. I am so drawn to her use of bold colors and patterns in furniture and accessories and after endlessly looking at her work, her designs leave me with such a deep appreciation for her work.
One of my favorite of her projects is the Shoe Closet. I love how the shoes are the focal point of this design.  I sure would be happy to have this for myself where I can see all my shoes and accessories in plain sight; it would make me feel like I'm in a shoe store.

Check out more of Elle's designs here. Her fabulously fun design style is so awe inspiring and will make you want to get her in your house immediately {this can be very possible if you are located in Metro Manila Philippines}

Cozy Zen

I just came back from a yoga retreat and in the past few months have really honed in on Zen Buddhism; this sparked my interested in Zen decor. Mind you Zen is minimal. It's the calming surrounding that allows you to be free of distractions, including interior decor. Now, this doesn't mean it has to be boring. This recent yoga retreat was for the most part, cute, but our room wasn't very thrilling to me; it's like they threw some left over country furniture and got a killer deal on all white bedding. Yes I know it shouldn't be about that especially when people are trying to relax but hey I'm an interior design enthusiast..there is no OFF button in my head when it comes to interior decor. What I did turn off was my phone (most of the time) therefore no pictures from my relaxing retreat. I did come across some very pretty photos of Zen interiors to help you see how you can still have a stylish Zen theme while still maintaining the calming vibe in the space.

So you see, Zen does not have to mean plain and it certainly doesn't mean it has to be minimal to a point where you have a bed, a drawer, and a lamp. Maybe if you are a practicing monk, then yes this would be appropriate. But for those looking for a new design theme you can pull Zen inspiration from the roots of Asian culture such as the vibrant colors in textile patterns, or the bi-lateral symmetry used in architecture. The key is keeping the decor mild and organized so that in the end you are left with a pristine space feeling calm and relaxed.
